“METRO Wine Village” premieres at SIAL
Shanghai 2008
Shanghai, May 14th, 2008 – For the first time, Metro
China brings 18 top wine suppliers from all over the world to the “METRO
Wine Village” debut at the SIAL Shanghai 2008, the largest food
exhibition in Asia. During the three-day fair, the leading self-service
wholesaler has showcased its core competences in food safety management,
freshness & hygiene, own brand products, as well as the wide
selection of exquisite wines from the “METRO Wine Village”.
As the leading player in self-service wholesale
business, Metro has been one of the major exhibitors of SIAL China for
many years. This year the company has developed an extraordinary booth
concept – on 2 independent booths of 180 square meters for each, Metro
brand and the exclusive “METRO Wine Village” has been presented to the
professional visitors with different topics and focuses.
The “Metro brand area”, consisting of several thematic
divisions, displays freshness & hygiene, hospitality, own brand
articles, as well as the well-known food management system HACCP (Hazard
Analysis and Critical Control Point). At the same time, a series of
promotional activities, such as a cooking show, wine tasting, and buyer
meetings will be organized by Metro at the stand. In addition, Metro will
join force with SIAL Shanghai and the most authoritative international
gastronomy association Escoffier, to present the “Cooking Trend Show” at
the SIAL cooking trend area.
As one of the highlights, the debut of the “METRO Wine
Village” caught the eyes of many visitors at the fair. In cooperation
with 18 global top wine suppliers, Metro built up the “Wine Village”
where 160 different wines in 30 brands are presented. Some examples of
this prestigious selection are the Saxenburg wines from the renowned
Stellenbosh area of South Africa, which make unique wines recognized
worldwide as the best from this region; Tyrrell’s, a unique Australian
winery, still family owned over five generations, from Hunter Valley; or
Lurton Family, the largest independent estate and chateau owner family in
the Bordeaux region, growing wine for five generations. Metro is renowned
for its outstanding expertise in wine. By now, the company is
demonstrating its experience in wine sourcing in 29 countries. So far the
company has developed one of the best wine buying networks in France,
Italy, Spain and now also in Australia.
On the three-day exhibition, the professional wine
specialists from Metro, as well as the international wine makers will
offer the visitors the unique experience to taste some of the most
prestigious wines and to enhance their wine knowledge. In addition to the
premiere of the Wine Village at SIAL Shanghai, Metro operates in reality
two modern walk-in wine cellars in Beijing and Shanghai with the name
“Wine Humidor”. These wine humidors offer an ideal environment for wine
storage with a constant temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, 70 percent
humidity and perfect lighting conditions, which are the true paradise for
wine lovers.
