“Tasty
Europe” promotion officially launched
METRO joins force with European Union to promote European food
products
Shanghai, 13th May, 2008 – In
cooperation with the European Union, the international leading
self-service wholesaler Metro launched the nationwide promotion “Tasty
Europe” throughout the entire 37 outlets in China. During the 2-week
in-store promotion, over 200 European food products are carefully
selected for the customers. Mr. Serge Abou, the Ambassador and Head of
European Commission Delegation to China, took part in the opening ceremony
at Metro flagship store Shanghai Putuo today and officially unveiled the
opening.
With "Tasty Europe", Metro is launching a
national promotion in all of its 37 outlets in China. The promotional
activities, started from 8th May, will last for 2 weeks in Metro. More
than 200 kinds of high quality food assortments from 15 different
European nations have been well-chosen for the promotion. Particularly
appealing is the large selection of dairy products, wines, spirits,
beverage, confectionery, seasonings and snacks, which provide the
customers a variety of choice and the best shopping experience of
European food without going abroad.
“Europe is the home of a food tradition with incredible richness
and variety.” says Mr. Serge Abou, the Ambassador and Head of European
Commission Delegation to China at the opening ceremony of Metro. “The
potential between European Union and China in the food trade is huge.
Through the sales network of Metro in China, we are very convinced that
it will be of great help in strengthening the awareness and recognition
of European food products among Chinese customers.”
Each store of Metro in China has a wide selection of
high quality imported products from all over the world. In average,
between 3,500 to 4,000 kinds of imported food articles are available on
shelves, which take a share of over 10 per cent turnover of the entire
food from Metro China. To many expatriates as well as Chinese customers
who have demands of imported food, Metro is always their first shopping
choice. As an international company with European root, Metro sells only
goods that meet the high standards of the METRO Group as well as the food
quality regulations of the given country. In the context of its quality
